Our Story. . .

Munro's Furnishings Innisfil Inc. was established in 1978 by Janet and Bill Munro under the name of Pine By Munro Inc. Specialization in solid pine furniture expanded to include hardwoods such as quarter sawn oak, red oak and maple. The Canadian family business now operates as Munro's Furnishings.Munro's Furnishings takes pride in the fact that the fundamental concepts have not changed throughout the years. Those core essentials include; all items are built by their craftsman by hand, from of solid wood and quality construction. Drawers are dovetailed front and back and have double fronts. The backing is of tongue and groove construction and is made of the same wood as the item. Mortise and tenon joints are used in the assembly of all case goods. Table posts are made of solid wood and table skirts are steam bent to fit the table.Since conception, Munro's Furnishings customers have valued the solid wood construction, supreme quality and simply knowing that the fine furniture is made in Canada. All Munro's furniture is made at the showroom/factory in Innisfil, Ontario. In fact, the showroom offers full sized windows that allow customers to see the furniture actually being built. An appreciation of having each piece made to order to the customers specifications including style, stain and handle choice to suit their lifestyle has been some of Munros Furnishings strongest attributes. In addition, Munro's Furnishings provides the latest trends in home accents to complement the furniture. These key aspects, have led them to become a well respected, true leader in the fine furnishings industry.

As of May 12/201 0 Guinness World Records TMhas informed Munros of this new world record.Canadas Friendly Giants"It took almost a month to construct, andnow its complete it measures 23 feet in length,is nine-feet wide and stands 20-feet high.The horse was assembled over a three dayweekend in October 2009 during a block partysponsored by Munros. The event featured anartisan festival and was also a fundraiser forbreast cancer."(Our Canada Magazine June/July 2010)www.ourcanada.caWe are located just off HWY 400 and Innisfil Beach Rd. The Nature of WoodAt Munro's Furnishings we select premium 100% Canadian wood.If all trees were identical all wood would look alike. In fact, no two pieces of wood are ever exactly alike, even from the same tree. Due to the difference in natural colour and grain each piece of wood will react differently to the finishing materials used.Close-grained woods absorb less and will vary in colour from more open-grained pieces of the very same woods.You'll notice that the fine woods used by Munro's Furnishings will vary slightly in grain colour, even on the same piece of furniture the variations are distinguishing beauty marks of quality woods.Climate ControlDid you know that freshly sawn lumber is more than 50% water?Like your skin, wood is porous. Wood will expand and contract naturally in all environments. However it is imperative to maintain the humidity levels in the environment between 30% - 40%. Eespecially in the winter months - to avoid excessive expansion or contraction of the wood. Avoid placing wood furniture near heat or air-conditioning outlets. Exposure to extreme temperature differences can damage any fine wood pieces, including variations caused by humidifiers, fireplaces or space heaters. Avoid placing wood furniture in direct sunlight. With over exposure, ultraviolet rays can create cracks in the finish, cause fading or darkening.CareTake simple precautions-Dont lean back on chairs, avoid using chair stretchers or table pedestals as footrests.-Dont put anything hot directly on furniture. If your furniture becomes scorched, seek the help of a furniture repair specialist.-Avoid leaving plastics on wood surfaces for extended periods of time. Chemicals from synthetic products can damage finishes. -Use non-synthetic table mats or doilies. Use a protection mat when writing. Use coasters for beverages.To help maintain and preserve your furniture, we recommend using a clean lint free moist cloth or a no wax build up polish and wipe dry. When dusting, always pick up and replace your accessories gently. Do not use a sponge or dishcloth on your fine furniture. Moving Your Furniture Special care must be taken when moving fine furniture.- Remove all knobs and casters- Remove any adjustable wood or glass shelves and wrap separately - Remove any detachable drawers- Close and secure any doors - Protect any corners, details or handles with padding - Lift all furniture sliding or dragging can cause warping or breaking
